CLC Selected as a Brooklyn Org Spark Prize Finalist!

How We Can Change Lives with the Spark Prize

CLC is thrilled to be one of 20 amazing SPARK prize finalists! Our work has always been rooted in Brooklyn. As the borough in which we started and with the greatest need for our services, Brooklyn has shaped our mission and fueled our commitment to ensuring every child has a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. Being recognized by the Spark Prize is both a celebration of our history and a testament to the impact of our advocacy in the community.

Brooklyn Org awards the Spark Prize to five outstanding Brooklyn organizations advancing racial justice and addressing critical challenges in our communities. The Prize specifically celebrates organizations that have a strong vision and outsize impact. Winners of the Spark Prize receive a one-time grant of $100,000 as well as publicity.

CLC’s mission aligns with Brooklyn Org’s vision. With the Spark Prize, CLC can amplify the voices of Brooklyn’s children and challenge systemic inequities that keep too many families in cycles of hardship.  We can turn resilience into lasting change and ensure that Brooklyn’s future is shaped by justice, equity, and possibility.

Strength in Partnership

CLC seeks justice for individual children by providing direct legal representation and social work support to children who are facing both family trauma and chronic disinvestment. At the same time, we effect systemic change by addressing the over-involvement of ACS in communities of color; advocating for changes to mandatory reporting laws; and pushing for increased access to services for non-custodial parents. We have the unique opportunity to help our clients address a variety of issues that may be holding them back, but we cannot do it alone. The Spark Prize would allow us to enhance community partner collaboration so we can be a bridge between our clients and the services they need and the change they deserve.
