Best Interests of the Child

A rule used in court to make sure that decisions about a child keep them as safe, happy, and healthy as possible.

The judge said she would decide where Ava should live based on the best interests of the child.

“Best interests of the child” is what the court thinks about when making decisions about your life—like where you’ll live or who you’ll see. The goal is to choose what will keep you safe and help you grow.
